Hello from Brussels

Sorry girls and boy for my delated but I'm working here for a few days.

The best thing about Brussels is that it's only three hours to Paris! It's an old joke but it's what many think about this city. Apart from the rain, the Manneken-Pis and lots of beer and chocolates, I'm discovering some nice Art Noveau buildings (Musee Horta today) and one of the best belgium contributions to the world: comic strips.

I won`t see you up to January so I hope you spend a very Merry Christmas and my best wishes for the New Year.

REMEMBERING THAILAND

What would you think if you are in a paradise island and suddenly, in the middle of the beach you see this just in front of you?

Well, in my case the fist thing I thought was: Ok, ‘evacuation route’ but evacuation to where???

Then I asked to the guide and he told me:

- Listen, this is the way going up the hill trough the jungle. But the problem is that you probably die bitten by a poisonous snake or another animal… So, you have to choose: to try going up or stay and die drowned in the Tsunami.

Of course I answered (giggling):

- Thanks for the information, I will think on it, but now I prefer to go for a swim.

In spite of this, I do recommend you to visit this special and charming country.

EDINBURG IS WONDERFUL

Spending the day around the city center in Edinburg is fantastic, not only for it atmosphere but also for their buldings.

When I was there, in 2007, I went to visit the botanical garden where a guide was expleining us some very interesting things about the garden plants.

It was interesting for me to visit the Parliament build by Miralles, a catalan architect who had won a lot of prices for his work. I believe this building was largely criticized by Scottish people.
One of his works is the building of Secundary School in Badalona "La Llauna" where I was working for ten years. Miralles was a young architect who died some years ago.

It is also interesting to go to the Walter Scott monument and listen to a casset where is printed some Walter Scott writings.

It's worth going to Highlands because it splendid scenary.

The spirit of Glasgow

When people tell me they've been to Scotland, they usually say that they've been to Edinburgh and Glasgow. They sing Edinburgh's praises and enthuse at its beauty. They also often tell me that Glasgow was ugly and boring in comparison.

Oh, how little they know about my adopted city. One of my favourite places in the world. It certainly has its beauty in the places that weren't bombed during WWII and it has fantastic parks. However, what I love about it most is the spririt and humour of its people.

Here's an example: The Man with the Cone on his head. The man in question is the Duke of Wellington a 19th century English general. Since I was born, the statue of him in George Square in the city centre has had a traffic cone on his head. My dad says that it was the same when he was a young man in the late fifties. The city council take it off from time to time, but such is the spirit of the people that another one appears mysteriously on his head during the night. I love Glasgow! I love its people!
